I wanted to give a quick update to my Substack readers to let you know I have not stopped writing, but most of what I’m writing is on Medium, where I have a larger following and a more specific subject matter focus, namely real estate innovation. For practical reasons, I have turned my attention back to real estate, an industry that, while hopelessly dysfunctional, is one I know better than most, that gets me more charged than most (in good and bad ways), and one in which I could potentially have the greatest positive impact on. I’ve also deigned to wade into what’s happening in Israel, because I have stuff to say about it, and I think my background gives me a unique perspective on the situation.
Anyway, I wanted to link to a couple pieces I’ve written recently. Please take a look.
The Proptech Revolution that Never Happened (But Could)
This piece explores the relatively short history of tech-focused real estate startups and investment trends. It’s written for real estate industry people, but I think its message is clear enough and applicable to lay audiences.
Resources for the Starving, Dehydrated Columbia Student Protesters
This is a short, hopefully humorous piece that riffs on comments made by a lead protester last week. My heart aches for the Palestinians in Gaza and elsewhere, who have been oppressed and harmed for decades at the hands of zionist war hawks. But the profound cluelessness with which many pro-Palestine protesters are approaching the situation seems to be distracting from the oppression and harm rather than counteracting it.
