Your comment makes me think of all these apocalypse-cycle (a-popsicles?) Sprinter vans with the gnarly tires, solar panels, and such. What good will the vehicles be when the gas stations aren't restocked with fresh fuel? Mad Max wasn't a documentary there won't be micro oil fields and, critically, refineries. The immense logistics that make oil and gas distribution possible and affordable will break down very quickly.

And as you know, my tastes--with the possible exception of food and running shoes--err on the side of homeless luxury. I used to work for an uber-rich gay couple in NYC and they were comatose-level numb to any luxury that wasn't the best and most expensive X in the world. I don't think it's impossible they, Gates, and others of their socioeconomic ilk will be able to hide away in New Zealand with Peter Thiel with hoarded resources for a while, but not indefinitely, and their moral rot and perpetual material dissatisfaction will go with them to their bunkers.
