Throughout history and across world geography, multicultural states have arisen at convergent points like Israel/Palestine, Singapore, Penang, New York City, and elsewhere--places that defy cultural hegemony, and therefore cultural avoid a lot of inter-cultural strife. Regarding your last point, I think the one caveat to that is if the US collapses before Israel. I could foresee sufficient chaos at home precluding any and all involvement in foreign conflict, which could result in the end of today's unholy alliance.
